Biometric-Based Aadhaar Authentication and Document Verification for GST Registration

We would like to inform GST registration applicants in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, as well as Chandigarh, about the new process for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification as stated below.

  1. Rule Amendment: Rule 8 of the CGST Rules, 2017 has been updated to allow for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication, including taking a photograph of the applicant and verifying the original documents uploaded with the application, based on data analysis and risk parameters.
  2. New Functionality Rollout: This new functionality, developed by GSTN, was introduced on August 24, 2024, for applicants in Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, as well as Chandigarh.
  3. Document Verification and Appointment Booking: After submitting the application in Form GST REG-01, applicants will receive an email with one of the following links:
  • (a) A link for OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication, or
  • (b) A link for booking an appointment at a GST Suvidha Kendra (GSK) for biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification, along with GSK details and jurisdiction.
  1. OTP-Based Authentication: If you receive the OTP-based Aadhaar Authentication link, you can continue with the application process as usual.
  2. Appointment Booking: If you receive the appointment booking link, you must schedule a visit to the designated GSK using the link provided in the email.
  3. Appointment Booking Availability: The appointment booking feature is now available for GST registration applicants in Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, and Chandigarh.
  4. Confirmation of Appointment: After booking your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email. You must visit the designated GSK according to the scheduled time.
  5. Documents Required at GSK Visit:
  • A copy (hard or soft) of the appointment confirmation email.
  • Jurisdiction details as mentioned in the intimation email.
  • Original Aadhaar Card and PAN Card.
  • Original documents uploaded with the application, as specified in the intimation email.
  1. Verification Process: Biometric authentication and document verification will be conducted at the GSK for all required individuals listed in Form GST REG-01.
  2. Appointment Scheduling: Ensure you book an appointment for biometric verification within the maximum allowable period indicated in the intimation email. ARN will be generated once biometric-based Aadhaar authentication and document verification are completed.
  3. GSK Operation Hours: The operating days and hours for GSKs will follow the guidelines provided by the administration in your respective Union Territory.
