The Goods and Services Tax on July 1, 2017, has implemented 28 percent GST is on Indian cinema screenings. However, later in the year 2018, the GST rate on movie tickets was reduced to 18%. Therefore, even on the recent release move “The Kashmir files” has a tax of 18% charged. However, many states have now declared it tax-free. Here are the state-wise reactions and the list of states which exempted the GST on this movie.

The Kashmir Files, which is based on the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the valley in the 1990s, has emerged as the first choice of moviegoers. This is despite the proliferation of mainstream superstars in many big-budget movies. Its debut weekend collection is worth Rs. 27.15 crore, an increase of 300 percent on the third day of its release.

Moreover, to encourage more people to enjoy it in theaters, several states have declared Kashmir files tax-free. The main lead of this movie are Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty, and Pallavi Joshi, the film is written by Agnihotri and Saurabh M Pandey. Here is the list of a few states wherein Kashmir files Are made tax free:

States Exempted from GST

Gujarat: The Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Saturday waived the tax on tickets for the movie ‘The Kashmir Files’.

Haryana: The Haryana government on March 11 declared The Kashmir files will be tax-free. Thus, immediately after its release, the government directed the multiplexes not to charge the GST on the movie tickets from customers.

Madhypradesh

Madhya Pradesh joined Haryana and Gujarat as the third state to declare The Kashmir Files film as GST Free.

Karnataka

The Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai followed Haryana, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh governments’ in making the movie ‘The Kashmir Files” tax-free in the state.

However, few twitterians are not happy, as few cinema hall charged them GST. Mr. Guru C Math said after-tax also ticket price is 236 INR.

Goa:
After watching The Kashmir Files, The current caretaker Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant on Monday said that the film would be tax-free in Goa. The CM of Goa watched the film with his wife Sulakshana and BJP state president Sadanand Shet Tanawade.

Tripura
To encourage people to watch movies, the Tripura government decided to exempt Kashmir files from GST. Thus, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Monday appealed to the people to watch the film. To support the film and encourage people in the state to watch it, the Tripura government has decided to make it tax-free in the state.

Uttar Pradesh
The Uttar Pradesh Government also joined the list of states giving GST-free status to Kashmir files. Thus, the Uttar Pradesh government on Monday exempted the film from paying entertainment tax.

Uttarakhand
The Uttarakhand government on Monday decided to make Kashmir files GST free in the state. The existing acting Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “I have directed the Chief Secretary to take necessary action to exempt the film ‘The Kashmir Files’ in the state.

Maharashtra
The BJP MLA Nitesh Rane has written a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray requesting him to exempt Kashmir Files from GST entertainment tax in the state.
