31ST GST council Meeting update on 22nd Dec. 2018: The 31s GST council meeting starts today morning in Vigyan Bhavan at Delhi. The meeting is going under the chairmanship of Shri Arun Jaitely.
Agenda of today’s meeting
The GST council has not published the official agenda of today’s meeting yet. However, As per the previous week’s talk by Shri Narendra Modi at republic TV summit in Mumbai that government is looking to bring 99% items under 18% GST slab. Therefore, this may the number 1 point for discussion.
Secondly, it is known from the reliable sources that GST Council is also going to discuss about the Annual Return filing dates in form GSTR 9 which is already postponed till 31st March 2019.
Also, we assume that there will be a discussion on GST refunds, Simplification of other GST Returns and which items to keep under 28% Tax slab.
Which goods and services are currently falling under 28% slab?
Below is the list of goods and services which attracts 28% GST, out of which may come under 18% GST after this meeting.
Goods under 28% Slab
Various goods falling under the cigarette category, Cement, Paints, Vehicle tyres, Air conditioning machines etc. Also, includes household items like Washing machines, Digital Cameras, Vehicles etc. Check here more GST Rates of goods.
Services under 28% slab
Services under 28% slab include Accommodation, food and beverage services, Services provided by a race club and Recreational and cultural sporting services. See more GST Rates for services here.
Therefore, as per Prime Ministers previous weeks speech you can expect 18% tax slab for household items under in 28% which are commonly used by people of India. Also, services rendered by above category of businesses may come below 18% tax slab.
