The QR code Generation on the invoice is implemented under GST In India. Therefore, the taxpayer who meets the requirement shall upload the invoice details on the e-invoice portal and obtain the IRN number with the QR Code and print it on the GST invoice.
Contents of QR Code in GST
Below are the contents of the QR code in GST:
- GST number of Supplier
- GST number of Recipient
- Invoice number as given by the Supplier
- Date of the generation of invoice
- Invoice value (taxable value and gross tax)
- A number of line items.
- HSN Code of the main item
- Unique Invoice Reference Number (hash)
- Date of the generation of IRN

06/2021 – Central Tax dt. 30.03.2021: The notification waves the penalty if the QR code is not generated from 31.03.2021 till 30.06.2021. To be applicable from 01.07.2021.
89/2020–Central Tax dt.29.11.2020: the notification waves the penalty if not generated from 01.12.2020 till 31.03.2021.
71/2020 –Central Tax dt.30.09.2020: The Word “Financial year” from notification no. 14 is replaced with “any preceding financial year from2017-18onwards“. It means if the turnover crossed Rs. 500 crores in any FY from 2017-18, shall generate a QR code, now from 01.12.2020.
14/2020– Central Tax dt.21.03.2021: Notification no. 72/2019 is replaced with no. 14/2020. QR code is made compulsory from 01.10.2020.
72/2019–Central Tax dt.13.12.2019: To Implement from QR code from 01.04.2020 for B2C supplies by registered taxpayers whose turnover exceeds Rs. 500 crores.
